Hull City vs Arsenal Highlights EPL March 13

Hull vs Arsenal : Preview.

After serving their Champions League duty during the week it is a return to the Premier League for Arsenal as they head north to Hull for a fixture which has become increasingly fierce in recent times. It seems that every time Arsenal and Hull meet there is some sort of controversy or some incident that takes place. With the title race hotting up however Arsene Wenger will be looking for his Arsenal side to make light work of Hull without being drawn into unnecessary distractions.

After their 5-0 thumping of Porto during the week Arsenal will be full of confidence ahead of their trip to Hull this weekend so Hull will have to be on the top of their game if they are to get a result. They may have to put up the road blocks as Arsenal seem to be hitting another gear at this crucial point in the season and with the incentive of winning the league Arsenal won’t be trying to do Hull any favours.

While Arsenal are contesting for their first league title in 6 years Hull are at the opposite end of the table fighting for their Premier League survival. The Tigers are currently sitting second from bottom and are in desperate need of some points so they won’t need to be told how important this game against Arsenal is.

To make matters worse for Hull they will be missing Anthony Gardner after the defender was ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury while Stephen Hunt is considering postponing a foot operation to help the Hull cause.

As for Arsenal they too have a few injury concerns most notably Cesc Fabregas who is likely to miss out on facing Hull due to a continuing hamstring problem. Tomas Rosicky will face a late fitness test although he is expected to be fit while. Bacary Sagna and Sol Campbell are also doubts for Arsenal. Two players who definitely won’t be facing Hull are Alex Song and William Gallas, Song through suspension and Gallas is out with a calf injury.

The favourites for this one are undoubtedly Arsenal and although Hull have famously beaten Arsenal in the past there won’t be many people out there who will give them much of a chance this Saturday. In recent seasons however these are exactly the type of matches that Arsenal seem to flounder in so that may give Hull supporters some hope. There are two ways i can see this going, a heavy win for Arsenal, or a last gasp 1-0 Hull win. However, i am leaning heavily towards to the former.

Chelsea vs West Ham United : Preview.

After an absence from league duty last weekend Chelsea dropped down to second in the table but a win over West Ham this Saturday will see them go back to the top of the table for a day at least. In contrast West Ham find themselves in a relegation battle and any points that come their way now are vital especially points against clubs like Chelsea where they aren’t really expecting to get anything from the game.

In their last Premier League outing Chelsea were shocked by Man City as they lost 4-2 at Stamford Bridge so they will look to fair better when West Ham visit this weekend. The last time that West Ham visited Chelsea they came away with a point after securing a 1-1 draw, a result which former Chelsea favourite and now West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola will snatch at given the opportunity.

While the odds are firmly stacked against West Ham they may just fancy their chances with Chelsea having slipped up in recent weeks and with a massive Champions League tie with Inter Milan to focus on midweek Chelsea will be forgiven for taking their eye off the ball a bit this weekend.

Looking at the West Ham away record this season however it doesn’t bode well for them. On the road West Ham have came away with all three points just once this season and with Chelsea having such a strong home record the Hammers fans can’t be too optimistic going into this one.

On the injury front both clubs have their fair share of problems. Of the two West Ham will perhaps be the team who struggle more due the strength in depth that Chelsea have.

Herita Ilunga and Julien Faubert are doubts for West Ham while Mark Noble is a definite absentee. Zavon Hines and Luis Boa Morte will also miss out with injury. There is some good news for West Ham however in that Junior Stanislas and Jack Collison have been back in training this week and Keiron Dyer may get the nod to start against Chelsea after completing nearly a full half against Bolton.

As for Chelsea long-term absentees Michael Essien and Deco remain on the injury table so are unable as is Ricardo Carvalho however he is pushing for a return sooner rather than later. Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, Jose Bosingwa and Yuri Zhirkov will also all miss out in facing West ham through injury. On the plus side for Chelsea however will be the return of Michael Ballack and Juliano Belletti after serving suspensions.

Capello set to start Rooney

England manager Fabio Capello will play Carling Cup winner Wayne Rooney against Egypt on Wednesday if a scan on his knee gives the striker the all clear.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson flagged up a slight knee problem as the reason he benched Rooney for Sunday's showpiece final, but his top scorer was called into action following an injury to Michael Owen in the first-half.

Capello was at Wembley to cast his eye over the final and could see little wrong with Rooney's knee judging by the striker's usual all action performance and his match-winning goal in the 2-1 victory against Aston Villa.

While Ferguson would love Rooney to sit out England's friendly, Capello doesn't have another game until May and will want to put out as near a full strength team as he can manage. The African champions have been handpicked to provide a dress rehearsal for England's Group C opponents Algeria at the World Cup in South Africa.

For that reason Capello (who would preferably like Rooney to take a rest), will start him in the England attack. But to avoid any grey areas of doubt about his fitness, the England camp sent Rooney for a scan on Monday.

An England insider told Soccernet on Monday: "The scan doesn't lie, if he has a knee problem it will show up, if he doesn't then he will train and most likely play."

The BBC were informed, when they enquired why Rooney was on the bench, that he was suffering the after affects of flu and released that information during their live coverage of the Carling Cup final.

Rooney looked puzzled in the post-match interview as to how he had overcome the flu, claiming he had a slight knee problem and Ferguson said that the striker was feeling slight discomfort after the match.
