Manchester City 2 - 1 Celtic
Gareth Barry opened his City account against Celtic with a terrific volley from a delicious Zabaleta cross. The lead was short-lived as City notorious defence were caught out from a ball over the top which Chris Killen latched onto to thrash home. The Citizens regained the lead early in the second half thanks to a superb solo Craig Bellamy goal.

After the Anfield crowd had sung their hearts out in the warm-up, Liverpool fell behind to Atletico after 14 minutes as Kun Aguero steered a close range header into the far corner. The Reds soon found themselves 2-down as Diego Forlan curled a beauty past the outstretched hand of Pepe Reina. Fernando Torres missed the chance to score against his former employers when the striker hit the inside of the post. Lucas Leiva managed to pull a goal back in the closing stages but the Reds came up short finding an equaliser.
